Historic Gillespie Dam Bridge was built in 1927 and recently renovated.  Clearance bars are bars suspended before a bridge to warn overheight trucks.  The truck hits the bar and the noise alerts the driver to the situation.  Engineer Jerry Cannon wanted the bar to be aesthetically pleasing–an unusual idea for these functional objects.
